Nutritional Status, Food Consumption And Academic Achievement In Primary School Students In Kupang

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between nutritional status, food consumption and achievement in three elementary schools in the city of Kupang. This study used a cross-sectional study design. The location chosen by purposive sampling method. There were 164 respondents consisting of 78 male students and 86 female students of classes IV and V. The primary data include sampling and family characteristics, food habits and nutritional status. Secondary data include the condition of the school and the value of report cards. Nutritional status is measured by the weight and height of the subject while academic achievement is taken from the average value of school report cards. The majority of the sample (64.7%) had a normal nutritional status in the category. Spearman correlation test shows food consumption (r = 0.173, p = 0.034), the nutritional status of the sample (r = 0.551, p = 0.049) had a significant correlation with academic achievement sample.
