Effect of Education Media on Nursing Student’s Knowledge and Practice of Breast Self- Examine of Health Polytechnic of Kupang in 2013
Introduction: Cancer is a familiar word to the public and even irritates the heart because it destroys a life. Currently cancer can affect everyone, in all age groups, tribes and nations because of various changes in life. Method: Quasi experiment-two groups pre and post-test designed was used in this study. Ninety (90) female students were choosen as population. Which then with purposive non-random sampling, 60 females students are determined as sample of the population. According to the research design, the samples was divided into two groups, 30 respondents for control and the rest for th treatments groups. Results: The study revealed that there were 86.7% respondent categorized in knowledge deficit in terms of BSE before intervention, which then gradually increased to 23.3% in good category, and 23.3 % in enough category after treatment by using poster and also, there were statistical significant between using poster and video to educated BSE with poster mean rank 7.50; video 0.00 and p value 0.000. Suggestion: Based on those results recommendation are pointed out to all Institution both Education (lecturer and student) and health care provider in Health Services such as hospital, health center, has an obligation to educating women how to do BSE by using video as a media. These media is suggested because of BSE involved motoric procedure. Poster more focused to educate about values such as hand washing and quit smoking.
